Who is Shahbaz Sharif?
Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the nominee of the United Opposition for the post of Prime Minister, is the President of PML-N and is the younger brother of three-time Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Shahbaz Sharif belongs to a business family. He graduated from Government College Lahore. His career in practical politics is four decades long. Shahbaz Sharif became the President of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1985. His elder brother Nawaz Sharif Following this, he started participating in practical politics.
Shahbaz Sharif was first elected a member of the Punjab Assembly in 1988. He was a member of the National Assembly from 1990 to 1993, became a member of the Punjab Assembly in 1993 and was a provincial opposition leader until 1996. In 1997, he became a member of the Punjab Assembly for the third time. Elected, the Assembly was dissolved in 1999, the Punjab government ended with the PML-N central government, Shahbaz Sharif was arrested and later deported.
Shahbaz Sharif was elected unopposed to the Punjab Assembly for the fourth time in 2008 and served as the Chief Minister of Punjab for the second time from June 8, 2008 to March 26, 2013. In the May 2013 general elections, PML-N came back to power with a huge mandate. Shahbaz Sharif won three Provincial Assembly seats (PP-159, PP-161, PP-247) and one National Assembly seat (NA-129). A dynamic leader and well-known for his good administration, he has been nominated by the United Opposition for the post of Prime Minister following the success of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.
